Kansas Credit Unions Raise Money for Education/Financial Literacy Scholarships

As part of this year’s KCUA Annual Meeting and Convention, the YES Committee held their annual silent auction to raise money for credit union education, annual meeting, financial literacy and college scholarships. Over $1,600 was raised in this year’s silent auction.

A live auction was also held during the awards banquet raising an additional $1,200. These funds help provide scholarship assistance in the following areas:

Credit Union Education Scholarships
Education scholarships are awarded quarterly and provide financial reimbursement to credit union professionals and volunteers seeking to improve their professional and leadership development.

Annual Meeting Scholarships
Scholarships are available to credit union staff and volunteers. One scholarship per credit union. YES will pay 100% of registration cost only.

Financial Literacy Scholarships
Scholarships are available to reimburse credit unions for out of pocket expenses incurred for financial literacy events held at their credit union or in their community.

College Scholarships
Scholarships are available to children and grandchildren of credit unions staff and volunteers and are awarded annually to provide financial assistance for tuition and books for a college student or graduating high school senior.

CU4Kids Coin Drive: There’s Still Time to Change a Child’s Life

Just a few coins can make a big difference for a sick child at local Kansas hospitals by participating in Credit Unions for Kids’ Change a Child’s Life change drive. By asking members to donate their loose change to your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, you can change a child’s life.

We are grateful for the credit unions from Kansas which have already ordered their coin canisters:

Mainstreet Credit Union

There’s still time to make difference! The Change a Child’s Life coin drive runs through May, but you can leave the canisters out longer if you’d like. Visit www.cu4kids.org/changedrive for more details.

Call for Nominations – KCUA Board of Directors

In compliance with the KCUA bylaws amended at the April 2011 annual meeting, the Call for Nominations for the KCUA Board of Directors is officially open. The following are serving as the Nominating Committee during the election process:

Garth Strand, Hutchinson Credit Union
LaRae Kraemer, Kansas State University Federal Credit Union,
John Beverlin, Mainstreet Credit Union
Larry Damm, Cessna Credit Union

One seat on the KCUA Board is up for election this year and is to be filled with a credit union volunteer (as per KCUA bylaws "volunteer” shall mean an unpaid member of a credit union board of directors, credit committee or supervisory committee).

Don Homan, Frontier Credit Union, is the incumbent for this position and intends to run for another term. The volunteer director seat will be for a three-year term, serving from the annual meeting in April 2013 until the annual meeting in April 2016.
