Winners were chosen based on their grade point average, community/school activities and an essay on teaching young adults about financial literacy.

TECU Credit Union’s Care Card won first place in the Innovation category of the 2013 CAMEO Card Marketing Awards.

The awards, sponsored by Card Services for Credit Unions (CSCU), recognize member credit unions that developed the most innovative and resourceful marketing campaigns of the year.

The Care Card offers TECU members the option to donate their reward point to the charity or organization of their choice. TECU’s marketing staffer Jenny Boyd came up with the idea.

"The give back message is so in tune with our brand, we chose to feature this in our marketing to help us spread the word about our credit card,” said Boyd. "In addition to our typical marketing collateral, we launched our Facebook page to help us focus on our members and their passions, and in turn help them get the word out about their charities and organizations.”

TECU has seen great response since the October launch.

Ninety-one entries from 70 credit unions nationwide were submitted for this year’s CAMEO competition.

"Our annual conference provides a forum for credit unions to share those best practices that have improved their bottom lines, and marketing efforts are a significant driver of such success,” said Bill Lehman, vice president of portfolio consulting at CSCU. "The CAMEOs showcase the year’s most successful marketing campaigns that are enabling our members to stay competitive and profitable.”

• Growth – Total assets are up 7.84% over December 2011. This exceeds the national average of 6.23%. Most importantly, loans have grown 6.15% in Kansas compared to the national average of 4.54%. Kansas credit unions are deepening relationships with members, exploring new delivery channels and finding ways to reach borrowers in the communities they serve. In addition, Kansas credit unions have seen nice growth in shares (7.79%) led by an 18.73% increase in money market shares. This exceeds the 6.09% increase in share growth seen nationally. 
  
  
• Capital – Kansas credit unions continue to be strong financially with an average capital ratio of 11.0%. This also compares favorably to the national average of 10.4%. Revenues for 2012 grew 3.0% over 2011 and are beginning to return to levels not seen since 2009. Sales of mortgage loans on the secondary market have assisted in creating a 22.8% increase in non-interest income over 2011. This has helped hold up credit union bottom lines as loan yields continue to fall in this low interest rate environment.
  
  
• Asset quality – Delinquency has remained fairly constant compared to 2011 standing at 0.94% at the end of 2012. This beats the national average by 22 basis points. Net charge-offs in Kansas for 2012 was 0.58%, down from 71 basis points at the end of 2011 and again beating the national average of 0.74%

The Kansas economy continues to outperform the national average. Unemployment stood at 5.5% at the end of 2012, evidence we are in the process of an economic recovery. Home sales and home values continue to rise as well. Looking forward into 2013, challenges will continue to present themselves. The economy is still in recovery and compliance burdens are heavy. Kansas credit unions are equipped to face these challenges and have proven they can be successful even in uncertain times.

Leavenworth, KS – As credit unions across the country celebrate National Credit Union Youth Week, Nerdwallet.com recognized Frontier Community Credit Union for a youth rewards program that lasts during the annual celebration and beyond.

One of only nine credit unions to earn recognition for youth programs on the independent financial comparison website, Frontier Community CU earned the Best Ongoing Bonus title for quarterly Kids’ Club drawings. When credit union members ages 12 and younger make at least a $5 deposit to their Frontier Kids’ Club account, they are automatically entered to win a $50 prize.  

Frontier Kids’ Club accounts require a starting deposit of just $25, and give young members opportunities to learn valuable lessons about saving and spending.

WICHITA, KS — Meritrust Credit Union is pleased to announce the opening of its newest Lawrence branch located at 650 Congressional Drive on May 1st. The existing West branch location at 4821 West 6th Street will be closing end of business day on Friday, April 26.

"The new West branch will offer the same conveniences as our East branch on Harper Street, which opened on December 17. The Credit Union of Dodge City held a groundbreaking ceremony signaling the beginning work to expand and renovate the Frontview Office. 

The credit union expects the work to be completed in October 2013 which will allow them to move staff from their Central Branch into this location.  Karen Hamit, president, says this will allow her to complete Credit Union Bucket List before she retires later this year. 

The Frontview Office was completed in 1997, and this completes the final phase of what was the original plan to expand the office along with the growth of the credit union.

Wichita, KS--- Catholic Family Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Taylor as the credit union’s new President. Taylor assumed his new position effective January 1, 2013.

CFFCU Board Chairman, Ron Lee said, "As a Board, we were apprehensive going into this search that we would be able to find a candidate fitting our criteria.  We had not changed management in nearly 25 years and with the current economic climate we knew we had a challenge in store. In addition, the Board instituted some lofty goals in order to gain our place in the market and to greatly enhance our service to Catholic Community.   After several applicants, our interviews quickly narrowed to Mr. Taylor, based not only on his past experience but the manner in which he welcomed the challenge and also wanting to grow our base and services to the Catholic and related community. Taylor was born and raised in a small farm community in southwest Indiana. He completed his education and started working at a financial institution in Indiana. He brings 37 years of banking experience to CFFCU. Taylor comes to Wichita from "The Catholic Credit Union” in Denver, Colorado.
