The group meet with the representatives from the Kansas Department of Credit Unions.
On Tuesday, 16 members of CUnext, our young professionals council, made the trip to Topeka to participate in the CUnext Advocacy Day.
CUnexters started the day by learning about credit union advocacy and the legislative process, including seeing the legislative process in action as they shadowed their state legislators through committees, constituent meetings, and onto the floor of the House Chamber.
During lunch, attendees heard from Senator Rob Olson, the chairman of the Senate Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, about the role that committees play in the legislative process.
Attendees also spent time at the Kansas Department of Credit Unions learning about the regulatory process.
KDCU Administrator, John Smith, and Financial Examiner Administrator, Mike Baugh, shared information on the KDCU organizational structure, budget, and examination procedures.
The day concluded with a tour of the Statehouse and attending the Senate session.
