Kansas credit unions were recognized for their community support at the American Association of Credit Union Leagues Communicators Conference in Chicago last week.
The October 2012 Make a Difference event won "Best Community Relations Program” for their efforts during a gas giveaway, part of the Association’s statewide awareness campaign.
"These events are a collaborative effort between Kansas credit unions, and just another way for us to illustrate the people helping people philosophy,” said Susan Dyer, Communications Director for the Kansas Credit Union Association. "It's a great way to inform consumers of the value of credit unions and drive home the credit union difference.”
The events have grown in participation. The first event, a gas giveaway, had six locations and nine credit unions participating. The second event "It’s on Us,” had seven locations and 11 credit unions participating. The third event, scheduled for Oct. 9 has 10 locations and 17 credit unions participating.
Between the first two events, Kansas credit unions gave away $22,500 to unsuspecting consumers. It is estimated these events have directly impacted more than 1,800 people in communities all across the state.
Be watching for how Kansas credit unions will make a difference on Oct. 9!
