December 9th marks the official opening day for the newest Golden Plains Credit Union location in Ellsworth. Ellsworth Federal Credit Union and Golden Plains Credit Union completed their merger over the weekend.
"It’s a wonderful opportunity for both credit unions,” said Member-President at Golden Plains Credit Union, Erich Schaefer. "We feel fortunate to be joining the community through this merger.”
Ellsworth Federal Credit Union was established in 1948 and served members of the Ellsworth Coop, the Holyrood Coop, and members of the Ellsworth Area Arts Council. EFCU contributed $3.1 million in assets to the merger. All of the 626 EFCU Members are now officially members of Golden Plains Credit Union.
"We are coming together to expand services and lending opportunities in Ellsworth. We will also provide administrative support in today’s challenging compliance and regulatory environment,” Schaefer said.
The two former EFCU employees will remain at the credit union, along with a newly hired employee.
"I was impressed with the level of service and knowledge that Tonya and Mary provide. It is a tremendous advantage that they are staying with the credit union after this process is completed. I look forward to working with them," said Schaefer.
Golden Plains Credit Union has been in existence since 1951 and serves anyone who resides in Central or Western Kansas, the Liberal trade area and members of the Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo. GPCU has 165 employees and serves 58,347 members with 10 locations throughout Central and Western Kansas. Full service offices are located in Garden City, Ulysses, Quinter, Phillipsburg, Liberal, Lakin, Hays and Hesston.
"We are confident that our members in Ellsworth will appreciate the extensive array of products and services that are now offered in Ellsworth, along with finding great value in our web site and Golden Plains Online,” said Tonya Wise, Vice President Branch Services, Ellsworth.
"I believe Ellsworth is a progressive community. It enjoys a strong industrial base coupled with small town values and work ethic. This is the type of market in which the credit union can thrive,” said Schaefer. "We are excited to join the Ellsworth market and begin serving the financial needs of this community far into the future.”
