Kansas Credit Unions Celebrate 77 Years, Honor Leaders

More than 350 Kansas credit union representatives gathered in Wichita April 19-21 to mark the Kansas Credit Union Association’s 77th Annual Meeting and Convention.

"This annual event is a time for credit unions in Kansas to celebrate our successes as indicated by our growing membership,” said Marla Marsh, President/CEO of KCUA. "Kansas is 625,000 members strong, and that number is rising every day. More consumers are discovering the benefits of credit union membership, and the value these financial institutions bring to local communities.”

The two-day event featured industry speakers and a variety of educational and networking opportunities. The keynote presentation by Mark Sievewright, President of CU Solutions at Fiserv, addressed the ever-changing financial landscape. Other sessions included social media, member relations, credit bureau fraud and sessions specifically for young professionals.

Five credit union leaders were honored at the event: 


Larry Eisenhauer, President/CEO of Kansas Corporate Credit Union (Wichita, KS), received the Henry Peterson Professional of the Year Award, honoring his leadership within the Kansas credit union community.


Larry Duntz, Chairman of the Board for Central Star Credit Union (Wichita, KS), and Robert Reeves, Chairman of the Board for Kansas State University Federal Credit Union (Manhattan, KS) for their contributions and devotion as a volunteer, both to credit unions and the greater community.

Henry Buset, Kansas Teachers Community Credit Union, (Pittsburg, KS) was recognized for his dedication and passion as leader, advocate and mentor in the Kansas credit union movement.

LeeAnn Marker, Hutchinson Credit Union, (Hutchinson, KS) received the Political Involvement Award, recognizing her extraordinary effort and involvement in educating both state and national policymakers on the credit union difference.

Mid American Credit Union was also recognized for winning a first-place award in the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Program. The Wichita-based credit union won the award for teaching a financial literacy course to more than 500 students as part of a summer youth program in some of Wichita’s most culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

As part of the Association’s business meeting, KCUA conducted its annual board elections. The Executive Committee was elected as follow:

  • Chairman: Jim Holt, President/CEO of Mid American Credit Union, Wichita
  • Vice Chair: Don Homan, Frontier Community Credit Union, Leavenworth
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Vickie Hurt, President of Quest Credit Union, Topeka

Newly-elected Board members include:

  • Rick Blue, President/CEO of White Eagle Credit Union, Augusta
  • Denise Bonner, Manager of Wakarusa Valley Credit Union, Lawrence
 KCUA board members continuing their terms include:
  • John Beverlin, President/CEO of Mainstreet Credit Union, Lenexa
  • Larry Damm, President/CEO of Cessna Employees Credit Union, Wichita
  • Rosa Saenz, Senior Vice President of Golden Plains Credit Union, Garden City
  • Garth Strand, President/CEO of Hutchinson Credit Union, Hutchinson
